A bokken is a wooden practise sword used in some Japanese martial arts. It is usually the size and shape of a katana.
Aiki-ken is the name given specifically to the set of sword techniques practised according to the principles of aikido. Training in sword technique is a fundamental part of aikido training. The movement of your body during the practise of sword techniques forms the basis for all the throwing techniques used in Aikido.

In Japan, bokkens are traditionally made from Japanese white oak. Here at okenjo we are following in that tradition by only using Irish white oak for our weapons.
At the moment we are focusing on making and selling Aikido style weapons. Therefore there is no provision for buying tsuba, as they are rarely used when practising Aikido.
We do however provide a choice of tips:
Iwama Ryu tip i.e. A blunt tip used in Iwama Ryu Aikido.

Aiki Ken tip i.e. A pointed tip used in most other styles.

We also supply a choice of handle lengths because when holding the bokken in Aiki-ken practice the right hand should be one fist's width above the left hand. As every one is different to make your weapon proportional to you you need a different handle length to stop your right hand ending up where the blade is, or too low down on the handle.
Measure the full width of one hand and multiply by three. This will give you a good handle length.
