A jo is an approximately four-foot two inch (128 cm) long wooden staff used in Aikido, and some other Japanese martial arts. The jo used in Iwama ryu are usually about a fists width (4” (10cm)) longer, than the usual 128cm jo.
Aiki-jo is the set of techniques in aikido which use the jo to illustrate Aikido’s principles with a staff weapon.
In Japan jo are traditionally made from Japanese white oak. Here at Okenjo we are following in that tradition by only using Irish white oak for our weapons.

Our jo is made in 1 inch (2.5cm) diameter and a variety of lengths to fit personal needs.
A good rule of thumb for Jo length is the distance from the floor to your armpit, standing barefoot, and with your arm in a normal relaxed position.
